There’s a curious mention of Uriah in the geneology of Christ. He wasn’t in the physical bloodline of Jesus, yet the Lord makes special not of him anyway, and for good reason. Uriah, unlike David, is righteous in his actions when he refuses to sleep with his wife Bathsheba after being called back home from the battle, as his heart and his obligation was with matters concerning the affairs of his nation and his fellow comrades. ‘The ark and Israel and Judah are dwelling in tents, and my Lord Joab and the servants of my lord are encamped in the open field…” 2 Samuel 11). David, unable to cover up his adulterous affair with Bathsheba in this manner, then has Uriah sent to the front lines of the battle to be killed.
But God remembers Uriah many years after his death, and takes special note to include his name in the bloodline of Christ in this manner, “David the king begot Solomon by her who had been the wife of Uriah” (Matthew 1:6). God remembers Uriah, an honorable man, and makes sure we remember him too. Uriah’s life may have been taken, but his name is recorded and he is remembered.
In the same way, the Lord sees all that you do. Your every act of kindness will be remembered. Your integrity will be remembered. Your righteous deeds will be remembered. It is all being recorded. And He wants to remind you today – AS His eyes were upon Uriah, His eyes are upon you. He sees you. He loves you. He remembers you. No detail of your life is too small for him to notice.
For the eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to show Himself strong on behalf of those whose heart is loyal to him. 2 Chronicles 16:9
