Setting A Straight Course
Letting God Of Every Hindrance
Life always produces motion, and our new life in Christ positions us for new motion. But what we need is set motion toward a specific goal. So what is it that hinders our forward motion? Several things, but today let’s look at one particular thing.
James tells us doubt causes us to be like a wave of the sea driven by the wind and tossed to and fro. Therefore, when we carry doubt we have no set course of motion. Our “inner workings” became destabilized and we are hindered from a steady forward motion. When we entertain doubt, we find ourselves rising up or forward one moment, but down the next. This is the damaging effect of doubt.
Therefore, not only does doubt hinder our faith, it hinders us from making straight paths for our feet as we are admonished to do in Hebrews: “Therefore strengthen the hands which hang down, and the feeble knees, and make straight paths for your feet, so that what is lame may not be dislocated, but rather be healed” (verses 12-13). Here we see that doubt is a heavy weight to carry. We aren’t meant to bear it, it causes inefficiency and disorder in our “operating system.”
The cure therefore is to ask the Lord to help you examine the areas of doubt you’re carrying and cast them out. You are called to run a race with endurance and harboring doubt is one of the things that will rob you of your spiritual strength and emotional stamina. Purpose in your mind, will, and emotions that you will lay aside the weight of doubt today. That you may walk or run with lighter and straighter steps toward the things God has chosen for your life. These are the desire of His heart that He has placed inside of your heart.
“…Let us lay aside every weight and the sin (doubt) which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us. Hebrews 12:1NKJ
“…So we must let go of every wound that has pierced us and the sin we so easily fall into. Then we will be able to run life’s marathon race with passion and determination, for the path has already been marked our for us.” – The Passion Translation
Meditative Verse:
Just make sure you ask empowered by confident faith without doubting that you will receive. For the ambivalent person believes one minute and doubts the next. Being undecided makes you become like the rough seas driven and tossed by the wind. You’re up one minute and tossed down the next. When you are half-hearted and wavering it leaves you unstable. Can you really expect to receive anything when you’re in that condition? James 1:6-8 TPT
